There are a large number of aluminum and aluminum alloy parts on a certain type of aircraft. In order to prevent such parts from corroding when used in corrosive climates, some parts need an anti-corrosion layer by electroplating, and some electrical parts need tin plating and chemical plating. Nickel-aluminum and aluminum alloy materials are amphoteric metals, and their chemical properties are relatively active. They can react with acids and alkalis. There are many difficulties in electroplating. The main manifestations are coating skinning, bubbling, and finding coating and substrate. All are poor binding. The main reasons for these failures are as follows:
1) Aluminum is a very reactive metal with a strong affinity for oxygen. Under natural conditions, it is easy to form a thin and dense oxide film on the surface, and even the surface after the oxide film has just been removed will quickly form a new oxide film, which will severely bond the coating to the aluminum substrate.
2) Standard electrode potential of aluminum At -1.67, it is easy to lose power. When the aluminum-based snow part is immersed in the electrolyte, it will immediately undergo a substitution reaction with the metal with a higher potential, resulting in loose contact deposition on the surface of the aluminum-based part.
3) Aluminum is a typical amphoteric metal and can interact with most acids. It generates aluminum salt and releases hydrogen, and reacts with alkali to generate metaaluminate and releases hydrogen. There is no electrolyte suitable for direct electroplating.
