There are a wide variety of titanium grades and alloys. However, we have the ability to use titanium in the following grades and alloys:
1. Titanium grades 1-4 -- Grades 1 to 4 of titanium are considered the purest. These grades are not alloyed and exist in their original form. With the increase of grade, the yield strength and tensile strength of titanium increase. This means grade 2 titanium has greater tensile and yield strength than grade 1, and so on. These classes have a high strength-to-weight ratio. In addition, they are lighter than steel.
2. Titanium Grade 5 -- Class 5 titanium alloys, also known as Ti 6-4, or Ti-6Al-4V, or Ti6Al4V, are one of the most widely used alloys in a variety of applications. Titanium class 5 alloys are known for their high strength. Compared with grade 2 titanium, it has higher high temperature resistance. This is why this grade of alloy is most commonly used in chemical processing, medical, aerospace, Marine and other applications.
3. Grade 9 Titanium -- Grade 9 titanium alloys are known for their high strength. Its tensile strength is higher than pure grade 2 titanium alloy. This improved strength at room temperature and high temperatures makes this grade of alloy more desirable in a variety of applications. The alloy is also known as TI-3Al-2.5V. Compared with grade 5 titanium alloy, grade 9 titanium alloy has better weldability.
