Some common mistakes

When it comes to 3D laser printing of metals, some incorrect assumptions are made. It sounds silly, but it's worth noting that just because a product is designed using 3D CAD modeling doesn't mean it can be "3D printed"; The 3D laser printing process requires unique post-processing.

As with any manufacturing method, the characteristics of the specific materials to be used must also be considered. The character of a metal object printed with a 3D laser is different from that of The "same" object cast with metal.

In addition, laser printing of metal parts designed for processes such as CNC milling will be very expensive. That's because parts made from reduced materials have greater mass and volume, and they're not designed to optimize for the inherent advantages of 3D manufacturing -- essentially voids and lightweight, high-strength structures.
