You know what? Metal tubes help push air into the airbag

Of all the systems in cars that use metal parts, perhaps the most important are the various car safety systems. In addition to basic vehicle functions -- from rearview mirrors, headlights, reflectors and turn signals to braking, steering and suspension systems -- vehicle safety systems now include a broader menu of active functions designed to help drivers detect obstacles, control the vehicle and avoid collisions. For example, some systems are designed to help detect driver fatigue, alert drivers to objects in their path, keep a safe distance from other vehicles, and maximize out of field of vision and around curves in the road.

However, car safety still relies on some very basic "passive" components, such as seat belts, reinforced passenger cabins and crumpled zones designed to absorb and dissipate forces to help protect occupants in the event of a crash. Another addition to the list of passive vehicle safety systems was airbags, which by the end of the twentieth century had become a requirement for all cars, light trucks, and vans. Perhaps surprisingly, precision metal tubes play an important role in this technology.
