Is non-standard really necessary

The basic questions that metal cutting companies ask their customers are:

Why is the material not standard?

Can standardization be achieved to improve production cost and capacity?

If you do have to have non-standard material sizes, your supplier can adjust the standard material to your requested size as an alternative to the factory's special order.

For example, instead of ordering a 5-foot (1.524-meter) custom tube to be tested, metal cutting can take a standard-size solid rod of the correct length and material type and then machined or ground it into a tube of the desired size.

Although this requires the removal of a large percentage of metal from the workpiece and increases the cost of processing time, it may still be cheaper than a special order.

(Keep in mind that the farther away from the standard size of the material required, the more metal must be removed, the higher the cost, and the greater the risk of instability in the machined tube compared to using standard gauge tubes.
