Polishing of Aluminum Products

Polishing is the use of mechanical operation, remove the aluminum surface of the subtle uneven, burrs, convex, so that it has a higher gloss, until the mirror luster. Polishing is operated in several steps, with initial polishing, fine polishing, mirror polishing.

1. Polishing machinery: Polishing machinery in a variety of forms, a wide variety, there are simple manual polishing machine and special semi-automatic or fully automatic polishing machine. Most of the aluminum packaging products used in the cosmetics industry use fully automatic polishing machines to polish the surface of the product. Fully automatic polishing machines generally consist of one or more polishing heads and conveyors.

2. Polished cloth wheel: the choice of polished cloth wheel is based on the appearance requirements of aluminum products for selection, respectively, ratchet wheel, finger wide wheel, disc wheel, flattening wheel and so on.

3. Polishing pulp: In the polishing process, the selection of polishing pulp also has different requirements. Now the domestic factory polishing usually uses polishing paste, with the following three types.

(1) White polishing paste. Abrasives are calcined with lime and mixed with sclelic acid, paraffin, animal and vegetable oils in a certain proportion.

(2) Red polishing paste. Abrasives are made from iron oxide red, long stone powder, mixed with animal and plant oils, stone, etc.

(3) Green polishing paste. Abrasives are mixed with chromium green and sclerotic acid, lyric acid, etc.

The type of polish chosen depends mainly on the type of aluminum product being polished, the initial product surface status, the type of polishing equipment and the polishing requirements of the product surface.

In the polishing operation, there are generally primary polishing, fine polishing, mirror polishing. At the beginning of the throw, the surface of the cast aluminum products have a small amount of aluminum chips and burrs thrown, when the product and polishing cloth wheel contact, the contact point area is required to be as small as possible, so this polishing is also called touch polishing. The initial cast usually chooses the flattening wheel, which requires the polishing wheel to be slightly stiffer and the polishing wheel to rotate faster, because the area of contact between the product and the polishing wheel is relatively small only when the polishing wheel rotates hard and at high speed.

Fine polishing can also be called soft polishing. Using wide wheels, when the product is in contact with the polishing wheel, it can throw a larger area than the initial throw, and the rotation speed of the wheel is much smaller than the initial throw. The low polishing speed of the polishing wheel increases the softness of the polishing wheel, thus improving the uniformity of the polishing wheel and the gloss quality of the product surface.

Mirror polishing provides the best product finish. When the first throw or fine throw is completed, the surface of the aluminum product will inevitably leave scratches or fine scratches. Mirror polishing uses a softer caster wheel, generally using a softer cotton wheel. Mirror polishing is often the last step in polishing operations, so care should be taken when operating. After this polishing, the surface of the product obtains mirror-like brightness and good surface condition.
