The Development of Zinc Alloys
The industrial application of zinc alloy was strong in the late 19th century when the invention of die casting machine, which resulted in the birth of a large number of zinc alloy castings, mainly to replace part of the tin-based die-casting printing version, and the first standardized die-cast zinc alloy is the New Jersey company produced Zn-4Al-3Cu alloy, and then improved to form Zamak-2 (2) alloy. A series of zinc alloys such as Zamak-3 (3), Zamak-5 (5) and Zamak-7 (7) were subsequently produced.
During World War II, Germany due to the shortage of domestic copper resources, its successful use of zinc alloy instead of part of the copper alloy as a wear-resistant parts, after the war stopped using, zinc alloy development slowly, to the late 1950s, the international copper tin resources are relatively scarce, the International Lead and Zinc Research Institute developed ILZRO-12 gravity cast zinc alloy. In the 1970s, the Nornda Mines Limited Research Center in Nada and EASTERN in the United States developed ZA8, ZA12, AND ZA27 alloys, which have significant advantages in both the force and casting properties, and are therefore more widely used. China's extensive research on zinc alloy period is after the reform and opening up, the main production of export zinc alloy die castings and galvanized alloy, now China's casting zinc alloy series has been basically in line with international standards.
