Gold and Silver Become the Nano-cancer Robot Carrier

How to accurately identify and kill cancer cells is a major problem in the medical field, nano-robot is one direction of effort. Li Nan's team cleverly integrated the gold-silver hollow nanotriangle and sulfur dioxide pre-drug into one, and constructed an effective photothermal-gas-combined tumor depth treatment nanosystem. The nano-cancer robot innovates in three ways, effectively improving the depth and accuracy of treatment. First, change the shape, design triangular nano-robots, improve penetration. Triangular vectors are easier to enter into cells than ordinary spherical vectors, about 1.3 times larger than ordinary spherical vectors. Second, let the nano-cancer robot itself play a therapeutic role. The team selected gold and silver, which is very active at the nanoscale, as a nano-robot preparation material, and under near-infrared light, the gold-silver hollow nanotriangle can produce a large amount of heat, kill tumor cells and achieve photothermal therapy. Third, the use of cancer cell microenvironment characteristics, intelligent unlock nano-robots equipped with anti-cancer drugs, better kill cancer cells, do not harm normal cells. The team used acidic conditions in tumor cells to induce sulfur dioxide pre-drugs to release sulfur dioxide gas on demand, which can spread inside the tumor cell for the treatment of deep tumors.

Li Nan introduced that photothermal-gas combination therapy can simultaneously activate the apoptosis pathway, accelerate the apoptosis of tumor cells, and achieve a win-win situation. The results show that the nanosystem has good therapeutic effect on deep tumors both inside and outside the body. Now, they have used nanobots to kill tumor cells in experimental mice.
