Temperature Sensor Classification

According to the measurement method can be divided into contact and non-contact two categories.

1. Contact type.

The detection part of the contact temperature sensor has good contact with the subject, also known as the thermometer.

The thermometer achieves thermal equilibrium by conduction or conductive flow, so that the thermometer's value can directly represent the temperature of the object under test.

General measurement accuracy is high. Within a certain temperature range, the thermometer can also measure the temperature distribution inside an object. However, for moving bodies, small targets or objects with very small thermal capacity, large measurement errors are generated, and common thermometers include bimetallic thermometers, glass liquid thermometers, pressure thermometers, resistance thermometers, thermistors and thermometers. They are widely used in industry, agriculture, commerce and other sectors. These thermometers are also often used in daily life.

2. Contactless.

Its sensitive elements do not come into contact with the object under test, also known as non-contact temperature meters. This meter can be used to measure the surface temperature of moving objects, small targets and objects with small thermal capacity or rapid (transient) temperature changes, as well as to measure the temperature distribution of temperature field.

The most commonly used non-contact temperature gauges are based on the basic laws of black body radiation and are called radiation temperature gauges. All kinds of radiation temperature measurement methods can only measure the corresponding ludiment temperature, radiation temperature or color temperature. The temperature measured only for black bodies (objects that absorb all radiation and do not reflect light) is the true temperature. To determine the true temperature of an object, a correction of the material surface emission rate must be made. The surface emission rate of a material depends not only on temperature and wavelength, but also on surface state, coating film and microstructure, making it difficult to measure accurately.

The advantage of non-contact temperature sensors is that the measurement upper limit is not limited by the temperature resistance of the temperature-sensing element, so there is no limit in principle to the maximum measurable temperature.
