The actuators must be powered externally, as there are currently no batteries small enough to fit on the robot. The robot can also be moved using a piezoelectric vibrating sieve ultrasonic source or an acoustic speaker placed under the surface of the robot. Whatever the source of the vibrations, the vibrations move the robot's elastic legs up and down, propelling the tiny bristle robot forward.
