What is lights-out processing -- and how realistic is it?

Dimming is an automated manufacturing method that minimizes or eliminates the amount of manual interaction required. This idea of replacing humans with gadgets or processes that can do the same job faster, better or cheaper is not a new idea.
The appeal of robotics and automation has continued to grow in recent years, including in precision machining. Fully automated lights-out production - with the potential for increased productivity, greater throughput, energy savings and lower labor costs - is probably every machine shop owner's dream.
But the reality is a challenge, especially in precision machining. It is a bit fanciful to say that any precision machining service is "self-sustaining", day and night, even if the operations division claims to offer fully automated, lights-out production.
Pride processing products in Europe and the United States, Japan and South Korea, the Middle East, Southeast Asia are widely praised.
