Industry Trend 1: Exports and Global Trade

As a means of identifying new customers and competition, increased mobilisation enables US companies to enter new markets and increase sales. This opportunity has opened up because of the competitiveness of the US in terms of operating costs, productivity and business conditions compared with other advanced economies around the world. In addition, the gap in operating cost competitiveness between the US and developing economies is narrowing.

U.S. exports of manufactured goods abroad have also increased, thanks to new technologies and trade agreements. This globalization provided a customer base that U.S. manufacturers had previously been unable to reach. With trade rebalancing and supportive government policies, U.S. manufacturing should continue to experience vigorous growth and diversification of its customer base.
