Although stainless steel is a difficult-to-cut material, its characteristics are not very strong and sticky. The main reason is that its chips are easy to stick to the tool, so it is classified as a difficult-to-cut material. Below, the common thin-walled stainless steel pipe cutting methods are listed for your reference, and make a choice that suits you according to your actual situation.
1. Flame cutting
Gas cutting is basically unworkable. The end of the pipe must be discolored, and the oxide melting points of chromium-nickel stainless steel, aluminum and aluminum alloys are all higher than the melting point of the material itself, so it is basically impossible to cut with oxygen cutting.
2. Carbon arc gouging
Carbon arc gouging refers to the use of graphite rods or the arc generated between the carbon rod and the workpiece to melt the metal and blow it away with compressed air to realize the method of processing grooves on the metal surface. Carbon arc has smoke, dust pollution and arc radiation. A large amount of metal residues after melting and cooling are attached to the inner wall, which is difficult to remove.
3. Wire cutting
The use of wire cutting fast wire can meet the cutting quality requirements. However, it should be noted that the pipe end will change color after wire cutting, and it needs to be polished. The slow speed is unbearable, and the small production volume can be considered. Outsourcing processing without investment. The speed is slow and the batch is small.
4. Grinding wheel cutting machine (with automatic steel pipe end face burr removal machine)
After cutting with an ordinary grinding wheel cutting machine, there are burrs and hanging flashes, and it can be used in conjunction with a fully automatic stainless steel pipe end burr removal machine to achieve very good results and low cost. However, the consumption of grinding wheels is a bit large and suitable for mass batches. Used when I was young.
5. Automatic instrument lathe
For the instrument lathe to cut very thin-walled stainless steel pipes (wall thickness 0.3~0.4mm), it is recommended to use high-quality white steel or high-end steel tools. Although the purchase cost is high, it is more durable and has a smooth cut surface. This method has low degree of automation and high labor intensity. The efficiency of automatic refitting of instrument lathes or automatic lathes is greatly improved, but the high-speed rotation of the six-meter-long steel pipe will damage the thin-walled steel pipe.
