The deposition process of titanium-based materials is currently under development. For example, electron beam physical vapor deposition (EBPVD) can be used to form a Ti alloy coating or structural condensate on a substrate with the same or different nominal composition. These technologies can be used in the aviation and aerospace industries to repair damaged or worn parts, such as gas turbine engine components (such as blades, buckets, seals, etc.).
However, deposition defects can potentially threaten the integrity of the condensate. When droplets of material splash on the substrate or on the accumulated condensate, a set of such defects will occur. Such defects are commonly referred to as "spts".
