Basic method of metal 3D laser printing

First, let's take a quick look at the three main methods of metal 3D additive laser printing.

Direct Metal Laser Sintering (DMLS)

This most popular method basically melts 2D designs into a flat bed of powder, fuses the powder, and then adds layer by layer to build objects. DMLS allow hitherto impossible designs. However, the process is very slow and produces metallurgical processes close to, but not in all cases equivalent to, conventional manufacturing. DMLS is also known as selective laser sintering (SLS) or selective laser melting (SLM).
