4. The choice of grinding wheel is very important.

Another key factor in centerless grinding is the choice of grinding wheel. It must fit both the metal in which the part is made and the surface finish you want to achieve.


In addition to offering different diameters and widths/thicknesses, centerless grinding wheels come in different grain types and grit sizes, often using ultra-hard materials such as polycrystalline diamond and cubic boron nitride.


Superhard and silicon carbide grinding wheel materials have advantages in centerless grinding of extremely hard metals for the following reasons:


The wheels are durable and keep their edge longer.

They have high thermal conductivity and maintain their shape at high contact temperatures and speeds.

The dressing cycle takes less time.

The wheels last much longer than those made from materials such as alumina abrasives.
