France PSA Group and Belgium Bicar Company and Citroen Automobile Company conducted a joint test two years ago to determine the effect of diamond-like carbon (DLC) coating on the friction properties of some valve parts. The hydraulic and mechanical tappets are coated with the DLC coating developed by Bicar for high-capacity cars. In the temperature range of 20~120℃, with PSA
1.6L four-cylinder engine, using electric ignition mode test test shows that DC coating can improve engine performance. The engine can be improved by 20% at low temperatures and more than 0% at room temperature. This means that when the drive does not exceed 3000 revolutions per minute (generally between 700 and 2800 revolutions per minute), the friction loss can be reduced by 25% to 35%. This is equivalent to a reduction of 1% to 2% in total consumption.
