Feline predominance was mostly on days 0, 28, and 56, when administered topically to 48 healthy 9-week-old kittens at maximum doses of 0, 1, 3, and 5X, respectively. On days 0, 28, and 56, somnolence was observed in 1 kitten in the 3X group and 1 kitten in the 5X group. The day after initial treatment; kittens in the 3X group were also disoriented and ataxia. One kitten in the 3X group had a slow pupillary light response two days after treatment, and one kitten developed tremors two days after treatment. About 6 hours after treatment, one kitten in the 5X group developed excessive salivation. One kitten in the 3X group scratched at the treatment site after 2 days of treatment. Seven different kittens (2-0X, 2-1X, and 3-5X) developed a mild cough within 13 days of the first treatment. Histopathology revealed granulomatous inflammation at the treatment site in three 1X kittens. A causal relationship to the drug could not be established. Lung inflammation (1-5X) and lymphoid hyperplasia (2-1X, 4-3X) were observed in treated kittens. In the second study, Advantage Multi for Cats was administered topically for 6 doses every two weeks at maximum doses of 0, 1.7, 5.2 and 8.7X to 48 healthy 9-week-old kittens. One kitten in the 8.7X group apparently ingested an unknown amount of drug and developed the following clinical signs prior to euthanasia: mydriasis, salivation, depression, vomiting, unsteadiness, rapid to slow to difficult breathing, poor pupillary response, General tremor, immobility, and nystagmus. Two kittens in the 5.2X group developed mydriasis, salivation, depression, squinting, and loss of appetite. One kitten in the 1.7X group developed mydriasis.
