About tungsten
In 2005, the International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry decided to use the term tungsten instead; But the "W" is still the chemical symbol for the element.
Tungsten, through its use in cemented carbide and high speed steel tools, makes an important contribution to high levels of productivity in industries on which the world's economic well-being depends. It is used in lighting technology, electronics, power engineering, coating and connecting technology, automotive and aerospace industries, medical technology, high temperature power generation, mold industry (such as WC), and even sports and jewelry.
In the home, tungsten is used in light bulbs, fluorescent tubes, "energy savers," HID lamps, cell phones, TELEVISIONS, magnetrons for microwave ovens, and other consumer electrical products. It is used for wall drilling, tile cutting, round knives and ball pens.
It was not widely known until recently that tungsten bacteria and enzymes played an important role in the early stages of Earth's history, when these organisms contributed to plants' ability to fix nitrogen.
