Heat-treating metal can even affect packaging
In addition, it is important to ensure that heat-treated metal parts are packed correctly to avoid twisting or damaging previously cut parts during transportation.
In metal cutting, for example, we always want to know whether the parts we cut will be sent to a third party for heat treatment or annealing. As parts become more flexible through annealing, improper packaging can cause warping of annealed parts when they are repackaged and sent back to you (or to us for additional processing).
Parts such as bars can become bent if they expand and are not packed properly after heat treatment. If the package no longer holds the heat treated metal parts securely, other parts may begin to rub and scratch the surface finish.
