Polycarbonate PC is one of the most popular medical device plastics. The material is resistant to shock, UV and high temperatures. It is transparent, stable in size and flame retardant. It can withstand the sterilization of gamma rays or ethylene oxide and can be assembled by ultrasonic welding. Typical applications include high-pressure syringes, arterial intubation, valves, centrifugal separators, blood filter housings, and dialysis machine housings.

Its Stella cleaning system requires materials to be biocompatible, heat resistant, and medicalgrade lysates that can withstand an autoclave environment of up to 134 degrees C.
Apec 1745 high-heat polycarbonate from Covestro meets these requirements. This transparent and robust copolycarbonate is suitable for medical applications that require autoclave, with advantages such as easy release, high softening temperature, good hydrolysis resistance and biocompatibility, and meets many ISO 10993-1 test requirements. Applications include baby incubators, dental or surgical instruments, disinfection boxes and endoscope disinfection systems.
